This book is the fruit of fifteen years of supply chain consulting to over 600 companies in the U.S. and Europe. It emphasizes five disciplines that are essential to optimizing the supply chain, and concludes with suggestions on how to move toward that ideal. The authors provide a theoretical framework for each of these five disciplines and point toward likely key factors for success in the future. Five examples of large organizations that have transformed their supply chains are also proposed. Although these examples are not always convincing in their illustration of each of the five disciplines, they provide a welcome complement to the book’s otherwise largely theoretical content.
