Whilst the French government is being questioned for the increasing use of consulting firms by public services, the question arises: what can a team of external consultants do that competent people, who know perfectly well the mechanics of their organization, cannot perform internally?
In fact, the question is not as much about knowing whether to call on their services but rather about determining the way we do it: figuring how to secure good advice, wisely, is a skill that every business leader should develop.
