Learning organization disciplines
No position is ever acquired for good. High-performance organizations are able to adapt themselves continuously. What are their secrets?
How to build a learning organization?
To learn how to learn, an organization must practice five disciplines:
– Systems thinking. People can understand systems and position the organization for the future if they comprehend phenomena holistically.
– Personal mastery. People are motivated to learn as they capitalize upon the “creative tension” caused by the gap between a clear perception of reality and their personal vision.
– Shared vision. People can pursue a common goal when they share a vision of that goal.
– Mental models. People must improve their mental models and become more aware of the inherent limitations of these models.
– Team learning. Two capabilities are required to learn in groups, i.e. the ability to hold constructive dialogue and the ability to overcome defensive reflexes.
