Win the talent war
In a tightening labor market, how to attract promising talent and reinforce the retention of existing talent?
The tightening of the labor market in recent years has left many companies with a scarcity of resources. Human Resources departments are not used to having to deal with such high employee turnover. Moreover, companies must learn to attract candidates who are currently in a position to set their own terms. Far from taking an alarmist stance, “Winning the People Wars” shows how to manage the talent war strategically. Based on the concrete experience of several hundred companies, the author offers many ideas on how to attract and retain top talent. We found the following tips to be the most salient:
– The recruitment policy must be aimed at seducing top talent.
There are currently a lot of opportunities for job seekers. A company can no longer simply advertise an open position, along with the salary and required profile. Building an attractive corporate image is essential.
– Selective retention systems must be developed to keep key people.
An audit is necessary to identify retention targets. The company must decide how much it is ready to invest in this effort. Different mechanisms can then be used to retain various types of employees.
– Effective turnover management requires anticipating attrition.
It is less disturbing when an employee quits if the position is filled rapidly. Updated succession plans, long-term relationships with a headhunting firm or an interim employment firm can help accelerate replacement.
