This book offers a fascinating objective look at man’s changing relationship with time. We now live in a society of immediacy, accelerating time and greater urgency. This has various psychological consequences, from the adrenaline addict’s dependence on a fast-paced existence to the desperate attempts of the depressed to stop time. A new individual is emerging, who is always in a hurry, responsive, and more concerned with immediate gratification than with the future. Although this book does not offer concrete solutions to live in this context, it does alert us to the possible dangers of this “cult of urgency.” As such, it provides useful background reading for those who would like to manage their time more effectively.
